A Fall Guide to NYC with Lulu!
Hi! I’m Lulu! I work on social media and email marketing for Artemis. I live in NYC and want to share some of my favorite places. One of the best parts of living in the city is exploring and discovering new places while walking. My Artemis Loafers are at the top of my rotation since they're perfect for walking all day while still looking put together!
Casetta has quickly become one of my favorite places in the city. They serve espresso all day and magically turn into a wine bar at night. It's in a prime location for quality people-watching if you're visiting. The Bode stores are across the street, and there are plenty of fantastic restaurants and an excellent hotel, Nine Orchard, minutes away.
Big Night, a specialty store for hosting, has a shop in the West Village and Greenpoint. If I'm nearby, I always stop in for Big Picture Farm Caramels and some unique pantry items. They carry the best cheese from upstate New York, famously served at Stissing House, called Jake’s Gouda.
The best lunch combination, in my opinion, is either a sandwich from Court Street Grocers or a few tacos from Los Tacos No. 1, followed by a piece of cake or a chocolate chip cookie at From Lucie.
After lunch, you should go shopping in the neighborhood. When I’m in the East Village, I always make sure to go to Mast Books (a fantastic selection of art books), Jane Cookshop (candles, pantry staples, linens), Duo (the best selection of vintage Levi’s and my favorite socks, Le Bon Shop), and 9th Street Vintage (quality selection of true vintage).
I live uptown, so it’s required that I recommend some iconic locations in the neighborhood. For lunch or dinner, you have to go to JG Melon. If you can stand the wait, an indoor seat is preferred; if not, outside will do just as well. Order a burger or a bacon burger, fries, and a beer. It’s the time to lean into the classics!
My backyard is Central Park; I spend every day in the park, whether going for a walk, running, or finding a nice bench to sit and read. A few of my neighborhood favorites are Zitomer (think Chanel counters, French shampoo, Byredo). My favorite candy store, BonBon, just opened a location on the Upper East Side. Poppi is a new coffee shop with cute outdoor seats and everything from coffee to a spritz. Of course, no uptown trip is complete without a trip to the museum, or two. My favorite secret (not-so-secret) hidden spot is Sister Yard, the coffee shop in the basement of the Met Breuer (currently housing The Frick); they have the best outdoor seating and delicious coffee.
If you go to Brooklyn, I have a few places you need to go. For a nice cocktail, natural wine, or a beer, get a table at Rhadora. After you get drinks, head over to Roman’s for dinner. Make sure you order the Fava Bean Dip. If you’re looking for an exciting dinner, try Bonnie’s. Everything on the menu is incredible, and the Bonnie’s Negroni (Pineapple Campari!) and MSG Martini are noteworthy. And, of course, for pizza, Fini.
