What size should I order in Women’s Artemis Shoes?

Please see the sizing chart above to find your size in our closed-back styles (Loafers and Smoking Shoes).  If you are usually a US half-size, we recommend sizing up in open-back styles (Slides, Slippers, and Babouches).  Each product includes a specific size chart.

I have wide feet. Will Artemis shoes fit me?

Kilim is made from natural fibers, which will stretch and mold to your feet over time--much like a fine leather shoe. That being said, our Women’s Smoking Shoe is a naturally wider style than the Women’s Kilim Loafer. Our open-back styles (Kilim Slides, Kilim Slippers, and Kilim Sandals) are also very forgiving, width-wise.

How do the various styles fit?

Our Women’s Loafer is a narrow cut with an elongated toe box. A good initial fit may feel quite snug on the sides (around your toe-box) and over the top of the foot, but there may be space in front of your big toe.

Our Women’s Smoking Shoe and Men’s Loafer are cut very close to the natural shape of the foot, so the tips of your toes should be quite close to the front of the shoe, perhaps even touching lightly. Due to the natural shape, it may feel tight all over before breaking in.

Our Women’s Slide is fairly easy to fit--we prefer it when the edge of your heel is right along the edge of the shoe, but that’s a bit subjective! The horizontal band may feel a little snug at first; this will loosen up with wear.

Our Women’s Slipper and Men’s Slipper are similar to the Slide in that the ideal heel placement is right along the back edge of the shoe. This style tends to be comfortable right out of the box for most feet!

I just received my shoes, and they’re beautiful!  How do I tell if the fit is correct?

It’s a perfect fit if initially they feel snug (even uncomfortably so), but your toes are flat rather than scrunched up to fit.  Much like high quality leather shoes, our Kilim shoes will stretch to mold to your foot.

They are too large if you can fit your finger in the space behind your heel. They should be exchanged for a smaller size.  If there is just a bit of space, and your heel occasionally pops out of the back, a heel insert (available on Amazon.com) may do the trick.

They are too small if your toes are curled under to squeeze into your Kilim shoes lengthwise, or if the tips of your toes are jammed against the very front.  If your toes are flat but the shoe is very tight around the sides of your feet, hang in there! The Kilim material will stretch to accommodate your foot width-wise and a tiny bit lengthwise.

What is the break-in process like?

After wearing them for 1-3 days you should feel a noticeable difference in the stiffness and tightness of the Kilim. If they are still feeling very tight, we suggest wearing them around the house with thick socks on.  If they still feel tight, we’d suggest bringing them to your local cobbler to be stretched in your specific problem areas. You will notice that after they are fully broken in, the Kilim will feel soft and relaxed. Also note that our Sumak styles are made from a more structured, dual-layer textile that takes longer to break in than the Kilim styles.

Do the women’s and men’s sizes equate?

We find that a Women’s size 40 equates in length to a Men’s 39, and so on.  Our Men’s Kilim Loafer is very similar to our Women’s Kilim Smoking Shoe, but slightly wider and with a higher vamp (about ¼”).

Can I order more than one size to try?

Of course!  We really encourage doing this if you’re uncertain about your sizing.  You might like to do this through our Try at Home Program.  When you receive them, please feel free to call us at 857-477-7189 to talk through the fit.

What size should I order in Men’s Artemis Shoes?

Please see the sizing chart above.  In our Kilim Loafers, we recommend selecting the European equivalent of the smallest US size you wear.  For example, if you are usually a US 10, but sometimes wear a 9.5, order a 42 in the Kilim Loafer. In our open-back Kilim Slipper, order one size larger than that (a 43 for the previous example).

Kilim Belt Sizing

We want to ensure you choose a belt that fits you as perfectly as your favorite pair of jeans. Use the guide below to find the correct size.

The sizing chart represents the range of waist measurements that each belt size can accommodate. For example, a size 30 belt will fit an individual with a 29.25” to a 32.25” waist.

There are two ways to find the correct belt size:

  1. This is the most accurate method. First, measure the circumference of your waist over your pants (this measurement will be larger/potentially very different than your pant size). Then, locate your measurement on the chart to find the appropriate belt size. Note: if your waist measurement falls between two belt sizes, we recommend selecting the belt size in which your waist measurement falls in the middle of. For example, if your waist measurement is 39”, we recommend a size 38 belt.
  2. If you are unable to obtain a waist measurement, select the belt size according to pant size. First, identify the waist size of your pants. Then add four to that number. This will give you your belt size. For example, if you wear a size 34 waist pant, we recommend selecting a size 38 belt. Note: If you fall between 2 sizes, choose the larger size.
